Police seek charges against Dan Norris
A file has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging decision against MP and former WECA mayor Dan Norris, who faces a number of sex offence allegations which he strenuously denies.
Norris, who was mayor from 2021 to 2025, faces allegations of rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, and voyeurism and upskirting against several women.
The MP for North East Somerset & Hanham has been suspended by Labour and has not attended the House of Commons since his arrest in April 2025, but still continues to vote by proxy as an independent.
In a statement, an Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said: “We’ve been carrying out an investigation into allegations of sexual offences which led to the arrest of a man in his 60s.
“The investigation, which is being led by officers with Operation Bluestone, our dedicated rape and serious sexual assault investigation team, began in December 2024.
“The allegations being investigated relate to rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, as well as voyeurism and upskirting against a number of women.
“All offences are alleged to have occurred between the 2000s and 2020s.
“As a result of our enquiries, a file has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider a charging decision.
“We’ve updated the victims about this significant development, and we’ll continue to make sure they have access to any help or support they need.
“We’d respectfully ask people not to speculate on the circumstances so the investigation can continue unhindered.”
In response to the police’s update on Wednesday, West of England mayor Helen Godwin said: “My thoughts are with everyone affected by today’s deeply upsetting further news.
“The combined authority and I remain unable to comment on an ongoing police investigation.”
A Labour Party spokesperson added: “Dan Norris was immediately suspended by the Labour Party upon being informed of his initial arrest.
“The allegations against him are appalling and any person found guilty of such abhorrent crimes must face the full force of the law. We cannot comment further while legal proceedings are ongoing.”
