Masked protesters target anti-racism fundraiser
An anti-racist gig was disrupted by a group of masked far-right protesters.
Bristol Antifascists say that “25 to 30 members of Bristol Patriots attacked (their) fundraiser” at the Red Lion pub in Redfield on Sunday afternoon.
In an Instagram post following the incident, Bristol Antifascists reported that the Bristol Patriots “arrived together in vans and cars and attempted to force their way into the pub” on Whitehall Road.
Only a quick response from attendees and local residents prevented the intruders from entering the gig organised by Top of the Crops.
“This is an escalation from Bristol Patriots,” said the Bristol Antifascists, who have previously organised counter-protesters against far-right gatherings by the Cenotaph.
“They turned up at a previous fundraiser in December at Strange Brew but this time they arrived masked and attacked people enjoying a pint on a Sunday afternoon.”

Videos and messages circulating online show a tense confrontation outside the pub, with a masked group waving St George’s flags.
Some people appeared to be wearing makeshift protective gear and were shouting slogans about “saving the country” while making what onlookers perceived as threats toward those attending the fundraiser.
According to witnesses, the confrontation involved dozens of people and led to a heavy police presence in the area.
Bristol Antifascists added: “We can only expect that it will happen again.
“With dwindling numbers at their marches, they seem to be trying new ways to spread their hate around Bristol and are lashing out at those who oppose them.
“Luckily, none of the antifascists were injured, but this is a wake up call for all of us.
“We need to be more ready. We need to continue to build and strengthen our networks, preparedness and response times.
“If you are organising an event in Bristol which you think Bristol Patriots might show up at, then please know that there is a community around you who will show up if you need it…
“Solidarity to everyone who was there. Thank you and well done for showing up. Please take care, and check in on each other over the next few days.
“We are very lucky to live in a city that can respond in this way. Bristol is an antifascist city.”

“Two groups with differing views were involved in an altercation in the street, and officers stepped in to prevent a breach of the peace. The groups dispersed at about 4.30pm.
“No arrests were made, but officers are reviewing CCTV and body-worn video footage. Any offences identified will be fully investigated.”
