Joe Sims wins ARIAS award for BBC Radio Bristol breakfast show
Joe Sims has been honoured at a prestigious awards celebrating the best of UK audio and radio.
The Proper Bristol Breakfast which Sims presents on BBC Radio Bristol won an ARIAS award for the best speech breakfast show.
The ARIAS are handed out annually “to recognise, honour and reward outstanding shows and the teams behind them”.
Sims remains an actor alongside his radio show, which he has presented since 2023.
“We’re just custodians of our radio show,” Sims said after picking up the award at a ceremony in London on Thursday evening.
“The BBC is so important. What we try and foster is this big beautiful digital breakfast table where everyone can come, everyone can say their piece and also you can disagree agreeably.
“What we need in the world is more nuance. More conversation. Listening to people as well as speaking yourself. Hopefully we are providing that.
“We have got the best listeners in the world. I’m absolutely delighted.
“I’m a proud Bristolian, we’re proud Bristolians. And there’s nowhere else in the world we’d rather be.”
