Three new Bib Gourmand entries for Bristol restaurants

By Martin Booth  Friday Sep 28, 2018

The 2019 Michelin Guide sees three Bristol restaurants pick up a coveted Bib Gourmand – an award that highlights restaurants which offer good quality, good value cooking.

“Bristol is a city on the up” according to the Michelin inspectors, who have awarded Bib Gourmands to two relative newcomers and one old favourite.

But it is not all good news for the city, with Bib Gourmand accolades being taken away from No Man’s Grace on Chandos Road – a restaurant that is currently for sale – and the Bird in Hand in Long Ashton, the sister pub of the Pump House in Hotwells.

“Bristol is a city on the up – a fact borne out by its three new Bib Gourmands,” says the official Michelin press release.

“Two go to restaurants in converted shipping containers on the old wharf: Root, where vegetables take centre stage, and the super friendly Tare, with its creative cooking.

“City institution Bell’s Diner & Bar Rooms is the third recipient, with dishes that are chock full of Mediterranean colours and flavours.”

There are 27 new Bib Gourmands in the 2019 guide from across the UK, bringing the total to 143, with London having 42 of these, four of which are new.

2019’s Michelin stars are being awarded on Monday. Bristol currently holds four stars: Casamia, Paco Tapas, the Pony & Trap and Wilks.
