End of an era as Falafel King to close Cotham Hill restaurant
One of Bristol’s most beloved restaurants has announced that it will be closing in order for its owners to concentrate on their wholesale bakery.
Friday will be the last day of Falafel King on Cotham Hill, but those of us who still need our falafel fix will still be able to enjoy Falafel King at their newly refurbished kiosk on Broad Quay.
The family-run Falafel King first opened on the centre in 2000 before opening on Cotham Hill in 2008.
Their bakery Abu-Noor Foods, on the Wadehurst Industrial Estate in St Philip’s between Newtown and Left Handed Giant breweries, specialises in Middle Eastern bread.
Abu-Noor’s pitta bread is used by the likes of Eat A Pitta, Bambalan and Murray May’s.

“Sadly we announce that Falafel King is saying goodbye to Cotham Hill and will shortly be shutting its doors,” the team said in a statement on Instagram.
“Having opened in 2008 when there were few eateries, the street has now blossomed with a range of hospitality and it has been a great pleasure to have been part of it.
“From serving you quick takeaways and sit-down meals to private parties, celebrations, live music gigs, flamenco and belly dancing nights in our atmospheric downstairs ‘khan’, we hope to have given you memorable times that we have loved hosting and will all treasure.”

In 2015, BuzzFeed named a falafel from Falafel King as the number one thing everyone needs to eat in Bristol, calling it the “undisputed chickpea monarch of Bristol”.
Falfel King’s statement on Monday said that the decision to close the Cotham Hill restaurant will enable them to grow their wholesale business nationwide as well as allowing the retiring founders the ability “to wind down and for us all to enjoy more family time”.
