Fire at city centre pizza restaurant

By Rachel Sutherland  Saturday Dec 10, 2022

A city centre restaurant will remain closed over the weekend after a fire broke out mid-service on Friday evening.

The pizza restaurant’s extractor fan “blew up” while people were dining.

Three fire engines and police attended the incident at Pizzarova on Park Street.

White smoke billowed out of a fan inside the restaurant shortly before 6.30pm.

The bottom of Park Street was temporarily closed off to vehicles while the fire was extinguished.

Within an Instagram post, Pizzarova staff reassured that “everyone is safe and well” and praised its staff for calmly dealing with the situation.

It continued: “Thanks to those eating with us for early dinner for your patience, to our team for dealing with it so calmly and for the boys in red for helping make sure everything was safe to go back in.”

The Park Street establishment will remain closed while staff figure out which parts of the extractor fan need replacing.

In May, the pizza restaurant experienced the same issue after its extractor fan “overheated”.

Over on Gloucester Road, a fire broke out at another Pizzarova restaurant in June, this was also caused by issues related to the extractor fan there.

Pizzarova’s other restaurants on North Street, Gloucester Road and Wapping Wharf are open and will be serving pizzas throughout the weekend.
