Couple open ‘bagelry’ in converted horse box

By Betty Woolerton  Sunday Sep 3, 2023

A former horse box offering filled, fresh, handmade filled bagels has opened in Wapping Wharf.

Owners Florence Ball and George Goddard are both former chefs who moved to Bristol in October from London.

Originally from Jersey and Essex but now live in Knowle, the couple were touring their bagel business, called Bagelry Box, around markets in our city before settling at Cargo 2 on Museum Street.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“We want to be the best bagel place in Bristol,” said George.

Florence and George are keeping in simple with classic, much-loved flavour combinations including smoked salmon, dill cream cheese, red onion and capers (£8) and pastrami, Swiss cheese, reuben sauce, pickles, mustard (£8.50), as well as brunch (£8) and caprese (£7.50) bagels.

There are also ‘schmear’ bagels (£5.50) with fillings of either jalapeño and bacon or garlic and chive.

Diners can choose between plain, sea salt, their own blend of everything or sesame-flavoured bagels.

The doughy rounds are prepared each morning at a shared prep kitchen in Bishopston and the fillings use local produce including smoked salmon from Clifton Seafood Company.

Bagelry Box is open every day apart from Tuesdays
