Bedminster bottle shop and taproom to close

By Edie Earle  Monday Nov 10, 2025

A Bedminster bottle shop and taproom has announced that it will be closing its doors at the end of the year.

Alpha Bottle Shop & Tap based in the Imperial Arcade on East Street opened in 2021 and sold a large selection of craft beers from in and outside of the UK.

Owners Mike Fenlon and Emily Penney said on Instagram: “It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that Alpha will be closing its doors for the final time at the end of 2025.”

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“From the team behind the bar, to the community of regulars who have joined us day in, day out, we are so grateful to you all for making Alpha into what it has become today.”

Addressing the reasons for the closure, the team added: “The world is a very different place now compared to the post-covid era that Alpha was born into.

“Costs have continued to rise, whilst people are able to spend less.”

Despite the sad news, the team will continue serving the community at their second venue, Lupe bar on North Street and teased a “big old closing party” for Alpha in January.
