Acclaimed restaurant could make surprise comeback

By Martin Booth  Monday Jan 8, 2024

Casamia was one of Bristol’s most garlanded restaurants ever, named among the best and even the best in the UK during the time it was open.

The Michelin-starred restaurant closed in 2022 after 25 years, with Casa opening in its place by the same team alongside sister restaurant Paco Tapas.

But now owner Peter Sanchez-Iglesias has revealed plans for Casamia to make a surprise comeback.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“Casamia will reopen again,” wrote Sanchez-Iglesias on Instagram.

“Unfinished business. If you know of any development / projects where a gastronomic restaurant could live, please DM me, many thanks. Peter x”

In 1999, husband and wife team Paco and Sue opened Casamia as a trattoria in Westbury-on-Trym serving pizza and pasta.

Their sons Peter and Jonray then helped transform the restaurant into an acclaimed dining destination, winning a Michelin star in 2009.

In 2016, Casamia moved from its original location on the High Street in Westbury-on-Trym to a new home at The General on Lower Guinea Street in Redcliffe overlooking Bathurst Basin.

The restaurant changed almost beyond recognition after lockdown under head chef Zak Hitchman, with the white walls of the dining room painted black and the £180 20-course meal with its own musical soundtrack.

Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, who is also executive chef at Decimo in London, added that he “would consider anywhere in the world” for the new Casamia.
