General booking opens for 10th anniversary Cinema Rediscovered
The full programme has just been published for this year’s tenth anniversary Cinema Rediscovered celebration of new restored films, forgotten gems and archive restorations, which runs at various venues from July 22 to 26.
This year’s programme includes an Aardman at 50 strand, comprising three events focussing on the great Bristol-based animation studio, with Aardman co-founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton.
These take a deep dive into the studio’s work, including a 40th anniversary screening of the boldly experimental C4 shorts series, Sweet Disaster; 50 Years of Morph, a celebration of the 1970s kids’ TV staple hosted by film historian and author Pamela Hutchinson; and two screenings of the Sledgehammer Revealed documentary, which includes a fully restored version of the great animated promo film produced by Aardman and the Brothers Quay, plus a pre-recorded message from Peter Gabriel.
“As befits a milestone event, the latest Cinema Rediscovered will be our most ambitious to date, featuring more than 50 screenings, many of them new restorations never shown before in a UK cinema – with 17 premieres – and some very special guests joining us live or remotely, including Aardman’s co-founders, Peter Gabriel, Alice Lowe, Pamela Hutchinson, Mike Figgis, Charles Burnett, Joe Dante and Edgar Wright,” says festival founder Mark Cosgrove.
“There’s also an unprecedented range of activity beyond the films; among them talks, walks, craft and improv workshops, projection box tours, a BFI National Archive pop-up exhibition, a murder mystery game and many other starting points for lively conversations.”
