First Bus scrap revenue protection officers
Revenue protection officers are quietly being withdrawn from buses across Bristol.
Bristol24/7 understands that First Bus are axing the roles which saw uniformed members of staff able to hand out £50 fines to fare dodgers.
But the scheme, which was introduced in March 2024, has been highly controversial with not just the public but also drivers having issues with revenue protection officers, who often caused delays to services.
A First Bus spokesperson told Bristol24/7: “We continually review and manage our operating structure effectiveness and as a result, a select number of Revenue Protection Officers across our entire business (not just in Bristol) have been placed at risk of redundancy.
“We cannot comment further on an ongoing consultation.”
