Cannes Grand Prize winner comes to Bristol
Described as “a delirious blend of political satire, camp fantasy spectacle and pop absurdity,” Diamantino won the Grand Prize from critics at the Cannes Film Festival. It tells the story of the world’s leading football star, who loses his touch and ends his career in disgrace. Searching for a new purpose, this international icon sets out on a delirious odyssey where he confronts neo-fascism, the refugee crisis, genetic modification, and much more.
American-Portuguese director Gabriel Abrantes comes to Bristol for an introduction and Q&A after the film is screened at the Watershed on Friday 29 May. Also being shown as part of the evening is his short film A Brief History of Princess X, which has been screened at the Encounters festival in Bristol and at Lyon Biennale. This tells of how the great Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi came to make his infamous Princess X sculpture.
