Mayor yet to fully support WECA funding for liveable neighbourhood
Councillors at City Hall have approved the full business case for the East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood but before it is made permanent, it needs just under £10m of funding from WECA.
And West of England mayor Helen Godwin has reacted lukewarmly to the 5-4 vote of Bristol councillors, with her three Labour colleagues all voting against approving the full business case.
Godwin is waiting for an independent review commissioned by WECA which she has previously said will help shape the combined authority’s consideration of bids for both the EBLN and the South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood.
is needed now More than ever
Godwin said: “It’s clear that lessons are being learned and the latest proposals for an amended scheme seem to be another step in the right direction, following a measured intervention from local MP Kerry McCarthy.
“Late last year, the combined authority commissioned a fully independent review of the East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood trial – with all the available data, including local people’s feedback.
“I understand that the panel’s report is set to be published in the coming weeks, and hope that it proves useful reading when we consider the council’s bid for further regional funding.”
