Optometrist-turned wellness founder’s next chapter
A Bristol-based wellness founder has launched the next chapter of her business by committing what she has learnt over the years into a book.
Abi Rogers, founder of The Better Brain Company, has drawn on experiences from both her personal and professional life in her book to help businesses and individuals navigate “pitfalls” through “mindset reprogramming”.
In 21 Days to a Better Brain: How to be calm, confident & focused in a world that’s losing its mind, Rogers argues that many driven professionals are quietly struggling despite doing everything they “should” to stay on top of things.
An experienced solution-focused therapist and mentor, Rogers promises not to overwhelm readers with jargon, instead offering achievable and effective daily exercises that can fit around a busy schedule.

While still a speculative venture at the time, Rogers took a leap of faith and founded her wellness startup in 2017 after having her eldest child.
She ran her optometry business for 11 years until 2019, before deciding to focus fully on her wellness venture.
But Rogers admits the career shift was not a complete surprise, having spent years processing both personal and professional setbacks with a smile as a self-described “people pleaser”.

The loss of her father at the age of 44 following a sudden heart attack while she was studying for her A Levels had a profound impact on her life.
With a longstanding passion for singing and a classical training behind her, Rogers also considered pursuing a career as an operatic singer.
During her business journey, she discovered that a business partner had committed fraud, leaving the company with thousands of pounds of debt and her facing significant personal liabilities.

Rogers, who lives in Totterdown, applied her newly acquired skills to overcome those challenges and, over time, Better Brain Company was born.
Speaking to Bristol24/7, Rogers said: “I wrote the book out of a growing desire to get something out there that helps people support their mental wellbeing in a practical, easily digestible way.
“Mental health challenges are rising, but so much of the advice out there is confusing or contradictory.

“I wanted to create something simple and grounded in science that people can actually use in their busy daily lives, to help them feel a little bit better.”
Rogers still keeps up with her first love of singing, performing at weddings and with the close-harmony choir, The Bristol Groove.
