No Bindings – Call for Submissions

By Joe Melia  Saturday Oct 28, 2017

A call for submissions has gone out from Bristol publisher No Bindings. They are collaborating with Bristol Ageing Better on a project which explores what makes and doesn’t make a city age-friendly for its older population.

No Bindings is directed by Lily Green and based in the Pervasive Media Studio at Watershed. They produce fold up publications of art and written work, each with an accompanying podcast. They call these publication-podcasts, which can be sent as a letter, read as a book, and listened to as a podcast.

Lily has teamed up with Pat Gregory of Bristol Ageing Better to explore how age-friendly Bristol is by interviewing and collecting stories from project leaders and Bristol residents. They are looking at various aspects of city life including transport, housing, inclusion, social participation and communication.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Alongside their own research they are seeking submissions of written and art work on what makes an age-friendly city for a publication-podcast which will come out next year. Those who have work selected for publication will each receive £150 and be interviewed. No Bindings are particularly interested in work from Bristol residents over 50 years of age and welcome collaborative pieces between younger people and older adults. All contributors must live in Bristol.

Written work should be no more than 1,000 words (prose) and 50 lines (poetry). Fictional work and work translated from other languages into English are particularly encouraged.

The publication-podcast will be published in late April 2018.

The deadline for submissions is 10th November 2017. Full submission details and guidelines can be found on the No Bindings website www.nobindings.co.uk/submit. @NoBindings
