Major exhibition to explore Bristol’s role in development of global street art movement

By Martin Booth  Wednesday May 26, 2021

An exhibition exploring the instrumental role of Bristol’s creatives in the development of British street art opens at the M Shed in June.

Vanguard Bristol Street Art: The Evolution of a Global Movement promises to bring together one of the largest collections of original graffiti and memorabilia ever seen in the UK.

Organisers of the exhibition promise “seminal works, notable moments, key events and extraordinary artists belonging to Bristol’s dynamic history are highlighted in this comprehensive and compelling exhibition, which examines the creative response of the city’s pioneering underground scene throughout the UK’s turbulent social and political history and considers the drive for social change underpinning the work of many of today’s street artists”.

Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

At the M Shed there will be new and original works from artists including Andy Council, China Mike, Filthy Luker, Inkie, Mr Jago, Paris, Rowdy, Sickboy, Swoon, Will Barras and Xenz.

There will be a life-size bronze sculpture of a well-known piece from Nick Walker; photographs of the 1980s by Beezer; and a bespoke seven-minute film by filmmaker Doug Gillen with an original score by DJ Krust.

Outside of the exhibition, a citywide outreach programme will include art activations, workshops, panels and film screenings.
