£150m city centre development finally finished

By Milan Perera  Tuesday Jun 4, 2024

A major city centre development that first stalled after the recession of 2008 has finally been completed.

Building work is now over at Finzels Reach marking the end of the £150m scheme that brings together three separate projects alongside new public realm.

After the recession, new developers took on the site next to the Floating Harbour to finish the development that is now the Bristol base for businesses ranging from Channel 4 to chocolate makers Ruby Hue, as well as hundreds of new flats, a hotel and a regular street food market.

Within what used to be a sugar refinery and later a brewery, Finzels Reach is connected to Castle Park via Castle Bridge; best known by many for its displays during the Bristol Light Festival.

Finzels Reach has been a collaboration between the developer Cubex, the funder Fiera Real Estate and global property advisor JLL.

JLL director and project manager, Stuart Brown, said: “Finzels Reach has been a labour of love over the course of a decade to bring to reality a modern, sustainable scheme that Bristol has been crying out for for years.

“We’re proud of the work the JLL team has done and look forward to seeing it serve as a hub for wider growth in the city.”

Cubex development director, William Tomlinson, added: “The quality of each of the projects, alongside their sustainability credentials and calibre of commercial clients, will ensure Bristol remains the South West’s prime place to work and live.

“Our collaboration with JLL on the project shows that city centre mixed use schemes can be sustainable, attractive and something locals can be proud of.”
