Bristol animation studio brings monster magic to television screen

By Milan Perera  Thursday Apr 2, 2026

A Bristol-based animation studio is part of the creative team behind a new pre-school television series.

A Productions has created animation for Monster Makes, a series that blends live action and animation on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.

Commissioned by BBC Children’s and Education for CBeebies and produced by Terrific Television, the show is hosted by Rebecca Keatley alongside beloved animated character Murphi, encouraging creativity and sustainability through reuse and recycling.

Katherine McQueen, managing director at A Productions, lauded the energy and fun of the new series.

She said: “A seamless blend of 3D and 2D animation with live action, Monster Makes is brimming with energy, a sense of fun and, of course, bucket loads of creativity.

“It was such a joy working on this production, bringing fun-loving Murphi to life and showing children that with a little bit of imagination and some everyday materials, they can create wonderful things.”

A Productions combined 2D and 3D animation with puppetry to bring Murphi to life, helping to deliver a series centred on imaginative play using everyday materials.

The programme also achieved a three-star Albert certification for its sustainability credentials.

The launch follows the studio’s recent work on My Friend Maisy, based on the bestselling books by Lucy Cousins, co-produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions and Trustbridge Entertainment, with animation created by A Productions and Karrot.
