Bristol is a hotbed of people and organisations that challenge the status quo and put their passions into action. We are excited to join this group in taking steps towards making the city the best that it can be. The specialist finance we provide is already helping to make a real difference across Bristol. Here in the city, we have supported the likes of Southville Community Centre, the Soil Association, Bristol Energy Cooperative, Better Food, the Trinity Centre, St George’s and many more.
This is all part of our commitment to only work with companies that create social, environmental and cultural value – ranging from charities, community schemes and social housing providers, to organic farmers and renewable energy projects. We are totally transparent, publishing the details of every loan we make on our website. So any customer with one of our ethical online saving and investment options really knows where their money is going.
We opened our UK head office in Bristol in 1995 and now reside in one of the city’s greenest office spaces on Deanery Road near College Green. Each year we invite the public to explore the building’s environmental credentials during Bristol Open Doors. We also hire an event space in the lower ground floor of our building at a subsidised rate to local charities and likeminded businesses, with all proceeds going to our charitable foundation.
Further connection to the Bristol community comes from our ‘Changemakers’ volunteering programme, through which we have donated hundreds of staff hours to support local charities such as Avon Wildlife Trust and 1625 Independent People.
