Graduate-led mural project creates opportunities for next generation of creatives
A new graduate-led mural project at UWE Bristol has created paid creative opportunities for both current students and recent graduates as part of a wider initiative to enhance the university’s new Kingfisher Court accommodation.
Delivered by Art Sync – founded by two UWE Bristol business graduates – the commission saw three artists selected to produce large-scale murals across the building’s entrance lobby and study lounge, with themes of nature and wellbeing shaped by student feedback.
The project also involved six current art and illustration students, who were paid to support the installation process through UWE Bristol’s creative agency New Wave.

This allowed them to work alongside professional artists, gain hands-on experience of live commissions, and strengthen their portfolios.
The centrepiece Kingfisher mural, created by artist Mind49, anchors the development, alongside works by Marta Zubieta and Matilda, whose contrasting styles were chosen to reflect both vibrant and calming interpretations of nature.

UWE Bristol says the initiative reflects its focus on experiential learning and collaboration between students, graduates and industry, creating a “full-circle” creative ecosystem that benefits emerging talent while shaping the university’s new student spaces.
