Alumni call-up to share memories of Glenside Campus
Alumni of UWE Bristol who studied at Glenside are invited to share their memories of studying there as part of celebrations to mark 30 years at the campus.
To honour the contribution the thousands of Glenside alumni working across health and social care sectors make to society, UWE Bristol’s alumni team is collecting personal memories and photos from those who studied there, preserving their stories in their own words.
The university plans to publicise some of the stories shared throughout the year with the community, to inspire current and future students entering a career in health and social care and celebrate the impact of the historic campus.
Selected alumni may be invited to take part in a recorded conversation to celebrate the campus’ 30th anniversary. These recordings will become part of a digital archive and will support future storytelling.

UWE Bristol, with Bath and Swindon Colleges of Health and Avon and Gloucester College of Health, opened a new Faculty of Health and Social Care at Glenside Campus in 1996.
The campus currently delivers UWE Bristol’s midwifery, nursing, paramedic science and many other health programmes, with facilities including a replica hospital ward, a diagnostic radiography suite and eye clinic, giving students access to real clinical practice.
Glenside’s long history dates back over a century before when it opened as Bristol Asylum in 1861, before it became Bristol Mental Hospital (1948-58) and then Glenside Hospital (1960-1994).
Glenside Hospital Museum, a museum exploring the history of mental health care over time, is based at Glenside campus.
Alumni are asked to send their stories and memories of Glenside campus to UWE Bristol’s alumni team to [email protected]
