Food club delivers vital support and community connection
Stockwood Community Hub, part of Bristol Charities, has been helping residents access affordable groceries while reducing isolation and strengthening local connections through its weekly Food Club.
Run from Stockwood Children’s Centre, the Food Club provides low-cost fresh and dried food to people facing cost-of-living pressures.
It also offers a welcoming space where residents can enjoy a cup of tea, meet others and access support.
The organisation said many members live alone or have limited opportunities for social contact, with some growing in confidence and becoming more involved in community life after initially rarely leaving their homes.
Stockwood Community Hub said: “Our work is about helping people feel more connected to the place they live. We want to create opportunities for residents to meet, feel welcomed, find support and discover what is already happening locally.
“Sometimes that means running projects directly. Other times, it means connecting people with the brilliant groups, services and activities already in the area.”
Alongside projects such as the Food Club, Stockwood Community Hub connects residents with local groups, services and activities.

Local volunteers and residents are helping to shape its work, with many members of the team living in Stockwood themselves.
The hub is encouraging more people to get involved by volunteering, sharing ideas or finding out about activities taking place in the community.
