Freya Gabie: Grafted Chorus
As part of the Orchard Engagement Programme artist Freya Gabie has been commissioned to work with local groups and Bristol-based composer Tina Hitchens to create bespoke songs for The Orchard, which will be performed at this special summer event.
Starting from The Orchard, each group of singers will begin their own song as the previous one ends – a song grafted, like a fruit tree, on to the last. As the performance progresses, performers will branch out across Whitchurch Green, the sound of voices spilling out and around the local area.
Grafted Chorus considers the connection between The Orchard as a social space to gather and commune, and its cathedral formation: both are spaces that are animated by the communities who use them.
This event is free, open to all, and there is no need to book – just turn up on the day. Everyone is invited to bring something to eat and join the singers for a picnic in The Orchard afterwards.
