A hand picked 28-piece orchestra will perform the whole of Billie Holiday’s iconic final album Lady in Satin. A dark, brooding yet beautiful collection of torch songs, Lady In Satin was released 60 years ago in 1959 shortly before the tragic passing of Holiday. The sumptuous arrangements, written by Ray Ellis, have been lovingly transcribed by Ian Bateman and the orchestra consists of a host of UK jazz greats alongside a handpicked string section from Bristol’s finest classical players.
