Single mother Barbara Hershey is being repeatedly assaulted and raped by a malevolent spirit. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the medical profession finds this rather hard to swallow.
Allegedly based on a true story and released around the same time as Poltergeist back in 1982, Sidney J. Furie‘s adaptation of Frank De Felitta‘s novel is a rare horror flick that doesn’t rely on special effects to creep its audience out. Highly rated by Martin Scorsese, it’s become something of a cult classic. This Cinema Resdiscovered screening is presented by The Final Girls – a “film collective exploring the intersections of horror film and feminism.” Peter Tscherkassky‘s 1999 short Outer Space will also be screened.
