Celia (Patricia Roc), Gwen (Megs Jenkins) and Jennifer (Anne Crawford) put aside their class differences to work together in a WWII munitions factory in this fascinating, flag-waving 1943 propaganda flick. Watch out for the young Gordon Jackson as a bomber pilot.
Co-directors Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat turned their hands to docudrama for this one, having previously been best known for their comedies (notably the St. Trinian’s films). This Cinema Rediscovered screening is part of the Girls Like Us strand inspired by Their Finest. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Girls Like Us curator and Their Finest producer Stephen Woolley with author Lissa Evans (whose novel Their Finest Hour and a Half was adapted as Their Finest).
