Citizen Jane: Battle of the City director Matt Tyrnauer turns his attention to seventies disco decadence with this documentary about the notorious New York nightclub founded by Brooklyn entrepreneurs Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, both of whom subsequently served time for tax evasion.
It’s a fascinating enough slice of social history, recording what the self-styled beautiful people got up between “the invention of the pill and the advent of AIDS”, but has been criticised for being rather inappropriately dry in its approach.
