Bristol Palestine Film Festival: Tel Aviv on Fire

Director
Sameh Zoabi
Certificate
TBA
Running Time
100 mins

Thirtysomething slacker Salam (Kais Nashif) lands a writing gig on propagandist Palestinian soap opera Tel Aviv on Fire wthout having much idea of what the job entails. To get to the Ramallah TV studio each day, he has to pass through an arduous Israeli checkpoint. Assi (Yaniv Biton), the commander of the checkpoint, turns out to be a huge fan of the show and knows a lot more about it than Salam does. Before long, he’s suggesting plot lines that our hero happily incorporates, boosting his career. But things start to get tricky with the upcoming season finale.

Hot from festival success at Venice and Toronto, Sameh Zoabi‘s genial satire on a world where people remain divided despite sharing many of the same tastes is screened to conclude this year’s Bristol Palestine Film Festival.
