Surfer Hinako and firefighter Minato fall in love, but the latter carks it in an unfortunate accident. Luckily, Hinato finds she can summon Minato to reappear in water simply by singing their favourite song. But now she must ask herself what this reappearance means and choose how to respond to it.
This latest imaginative animation from Lu Over the Wall director Masaaki Yuasa packs a deep emotional punch. It’s on screen in the annual Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme, whose theme this year is happiness.
