Venue: University of Bristol Lecture Room 8
Price: Free
Artists
Tristan Kay, Madhu Krishnan, Sally-Ann Kitts, Connor Doak

A half-day celebration of revolutionary verse, including poetry that is politically radical, innovative in its themes, or formally experimental. Mini-talks by University of Bristol academics on particular poets will be follwed at 5.15pm with a roundtable featuring four external speakers who work, in various capacities, with poetry in Russian and Eastern European contexts. The afternoon sessions include poets from three continents (Latin America, Africa, Europe) and from different historical periods (stretching from Dante to the present day).

The evening roundtable focuses on Russia and Eastern Europe, where poetry has historically been highly politicized. The roundtable consists of four external speakers: Rosy Carrick (a translator and scholar of Mayakovsky, and a performance poet in her own right), Sasha Dugdale (poet, translator, and editor of Modern Poetry in Translation), Robin Milner-Gulland (a translator and scholar of Russian poetry), and George Szirtes (Hungarian-British poet and translator of Hungarian literature).

Timetable:
1.00PM DANTE (Tristan Kay)
1.30PM OKIGBO (Madhu Krishnan)
2.00PM MARAGALL (Sally-Ann Kitts)
2.30PM TSVETAEVA (Connor Doak)
3.30PM NERUDA (Paul Merchant)
4.00PM APOLLINAIRE (Susan Harrow)
4.30PM MIŁOSZ (Stanley Bill)
