The Do-IY Curates 002
The Do-IY Collective curates their second exhibition in Bristol, with ten mixed-media artists spanning all ranges of thematic discussion.
A year down the line and the Collective returns to Centrespace Gallery with bigger and more ambitious plans.
This exhibition is an exploration of the polysemantic word ‘green’. We challenge the selected artists to make work in response to this.
For example, during post-classical and early modern Europe, green was the colour commonly associated with wealth, merchants, bankers and the gentry, while red was reserved for the nobility.
In surveys made in American, European, and Islamic countries, green is the colour most commonly associated with nature, life, health, youth, spring, hope and envy. In the European Union and the United States, green is also sometimes associated with toxicity and poor health, but in China and most of Asia, its associations are very positive, as the symbol of fertility and happiness. Due to its association with nature, it is the colour of the environmental movement. Political groups advocating environmental protection and social justice describe themselves as part of the Green movement, some naming themselves Green parties.
This is a platform to produce, collaborate and curate. Our ethos focuses on ‘universal art’, with this philosophy in mind, we bring you our second exhibition. Materiality, colour and structure are paramount throughout the exhibition; the closely chosen artworks will play, combine and integrate with each other, creating this pleasurable and sensory Utopia.
