Opening Minds

Date: Saturday, Sep 15 2018 - Sunday, Sep 16 2018
Venue: Paintworks Event Space
Artists
Milestones, Milestones Trust

Social care provider Milestones Trust hosts this annual arts festival inspired by nature and the environment, bringing together the creative talents and original artworks of those supported by the charity.

The exhibition showcases the artistic work of people with mental health needs and learning disabilities in the south-west.

Key exhibits include Halfway to the Sun, a cascading plastic installation created from recycling old plastic bottles and a multi-sensory installation which uses sound and light to explore the natural environment.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Alongside the different forms of art, the weekend event will feature a line-up of entertainment including live music from local Bristol bands, comedy from the likes of Mark Olver, Steve Day and Juliette Butler, poetry readings and original films depicting the work of the charity, to create a fascinating and enjoyable day out for visitors.

Bristol-based Milestones Trust supports people with mental health challenges, dementia and learning disabilities.

Opening Minds is part of the charity’s Expressions arts programme, which uses creative art to help the people it supports develop new skills, make new friends and build confidence, by offering an alternative form of self-expression and communication.

The event will also feature activities such as watercolour painting, sculpture making and textiles, fine art and spoken word workshops. There will be a café, bar and shop in the events space. It is a free event open to the public, with artwork available to buy.

Sept 15-16, Paintworks Event Space, 10am-7pm. For more info, visit www.facebook.com/events/216962452352945
