Rees-Zammit commits to Ashton Gate with long-term contract
Louis Rees-Zammit has committed his future to Ashton Gate by signing a new long-term contract with Bristol Bears.
The 24-year-old has made an immediate impact since joining the club for the 2025/26 season, scoring six tries in eight appearances.
Equally at home on the wing or at full-back, the Welshman’s pace and power have fitted seamlessly into Pat Lam’s outfit.
He announced his arrival at Ashton Gate in style with an 82nd-minute try against Leicester Tigers, racing for his first home try at a remarkable 23.57mph.

Rees-Zammit previously signed contracts with NFL teams the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars but did not play a competitive game, returning to rugby union after an 18-month spell in NFL.
Many have suggested the experience forged him into a more complete player, a view shared by Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam.
Lam said: “Since coming back from the NFL, he’s shown incredible professionalism and hunger to keep improving.
“His speed, power and skill set are obvious, but what really stands out is his willingness to learn, adapt and deliver on the biggest stage.”
Welcoming the contract extension, Lam described Rees-Zammit as a “world-class talent”.
He added: “Louis is a world-class talent and someone who embodies the way we want to play at Bristol Bears.
“What’s exciting is that he’s only just scratching the surface of his ability. At just 24 years old, there’s so much more to come from him.
“If he keeps progressing on this journey, he has everything it takes to become one of the very best players in the world, and we’re delighted he’s committed his long-term future to the club.”

Rees-Zammit starred in Bristol Bears’ emphatic win over Harlequins, scoring a sensational chip-and-chase try before half-time, and then bagged a brace in the final fixture of 2025 against Newcastle Red Bulls as the Bears came from behind to secure a 36–27 victory.
He featured at full-back against Newcastle – a position Lam views as his best – while continuing to play on the wing for Wales during the autumn internationals.
Rees-Zammit said: “I’m incredibly happy to have committed my future to Bristol Bears. This is the perfect club for me and I’m excited to see what we can achieve here.
“The environment allows me to express myself and play the game the way I love, which brings out the best in me.
“Running out at Ashton Gate in front of huge crowds and feeling that energy from the fans is special, and it makes me excited about what we can build together in the years ahead.”
The club has not yet specified the length of the new contract.
