Benhard Janse van Rensburg called up to England squad
Former South Africa Under-20 centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg is already an adopted Bristolian having played for Bristol Bears since 2023.
Now the 29-year-old could win his first England cap having been called into the England training squad ahead of the inaugural Nations Championship.
Steve Borthwick’s side will play South Africa, Fiji and Argentina in July, before taking on Australia, Japan and New Zealand at Twickenham in November.
Janse van Rensburg will qualify to play for England on five-year residency grounds, having played for London Irish before joining Bristol.
He will become eligible to play against Fiji but will not qualify for England in time to face South Africa in Johannesburg on 4 July in the opening round of this summer’s Nations Championships.
Janse van Rensburg will be joining Bears teammate Ellis Genge in the England squad, who are training at the RFU Centre for Athletic Development at Pennyhill Park in Surrey until Wednesday.
Bears’ final home game of the season is against Bath on May 29 before a trip to Sale on June 6.
