Bristol Bears beat Exeter to go top of Premiership

By Martin Booth  Saturday Jan 9, 2021

In the West Country derby between European Cup holders Exeter and European Challenge Cup holders Bristol, the Bears’ fifth consecutive win put them top of the Premiership table.

The 20-7 win away at Sandy Park with tries from Harry Randall and Semi Radradra was spearheaded by scrum half Randall, who was described in a tweet by his teammate Max Lahiff as “industrious and robust despite his diminutive stature”.

Talk of a full international call-up is now on the cards for the 23-year-old, who was born in England but grew up in Wales and can choose to play for either country if he receives the call.

A man-of-the-match performance by Randall saw him score one try, concealed almost entirely within a rolling maul, and showcase his full bag of tricks from quick tap penalties to spotting and squeezing through the smallest of gaps in the Exeter defence.

“The focus for me at the moment is just to keep doing what I’m doing for Bristol Bears,” said Randall as the post-match talk on BT Sport turned to a possible cap for either England or Wales.

“Hopefully anything on top of that is a massive bonus for me. I’m just really enjoying playing my rugby at the moment with Bristol and hopefully bigger things will come.”
