Agard and Ayling depart Ashton Gate

By Ned Holmes  Thursday Aug 11, 2016

Deals have been agreed for both Kieran Agard and Luke Ayling to leave Bristol City.

Both players were brought in in the summer of 2014 by then manager Steve Cotterill, and played integral parts of the Robins’ League One and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy that season.

Agard, who came to Ashton Gate from Rotherham United, will join MK Dons for a club record fee of £750,000 on a three-year deal. The 26-year-old striker played 73 times for the club, scoring 17 times, and forming a dangerous partnership up top with Aaron Wilbraham.

24-year-old Ayling joins Leeds United on a three-year deal for a reported fee of £750,000, after making 80 appearances for the Robins.

The versatile defender was a permanent fixture under Steve Cotterill, starting every game of the 2014/15 double winning season, but fell out of favour after the appointment of Lee Johnson and the arrival of Adam Matthews on loan.

The departures may make room for two new signings, City chief operating officer Mark Ashton admitted on BBC Radio Bristol on Monday night.

Ashton said: “We are still actively seeking two more players, one at each end.”
