Bristol City appoint Michael Skubula as new manager
Bristol City have confirmed the appointment of Michael Skubula as their new manager.
The 43-year-old coach has signed a three-year-contract with the Robins after guiding Lincoln to the Championship following a record-breaking season which saw the Imps collect a total of 103 points.
Skubula also won the League One manager of the year award after taking Lincoln to the second tier for the first time in 65 years.
Bristol City, who finished 12th in the championship, were eager to find a new manager after the dismissal of Gerhard Struber in March following a string of disappointing results, after which former England boss Roy Hodgson was appointed as a short-term interim until the end of the season.
Skubula’s appointment is expected to cost the robins more than £1m in compensation as the former Lincoln boss recently signed a new deal with his former club after rumours surfaced that City were looking to appoint Bournemouth’s assistant manager Tommy Elphick.
“I’m delighted to take up this exciting opportunity,” Skubula told the official Bristol City website.
“I’ve had some really positive conversations with the board and James Ellis, who have been very clear about the club’s ambition.
“I’m ready for the challenge ahead and looking forward to meeting the players, staff and supporters.
“Preparations for pre-season are well underway and we have an important and exciting few months ahead.”
Bristol City CEO Charlie Boss added: “We are delighted that Michael has agreed to be our new manager.
“Michael’s leadership qualities stood out through the interview process and were clearly evident during a title-winning season with Lincoln City. We are excited about what he will bring to Bristol City.
“I want to thank City fans for their support as we completed our search for the right person to lead our first team and I know they will join me in giving Michael the warmest of welcomes to the West Country.”
