My Bristol Favourites: Fluxx Wyldly
Brizzle Boyz co-host and co-producer Fluxx Wyldly is Bristol’s very own ‘Drag Whatever’.
Fluxx has been performing as a drag king and creating cartoony chaos for ten years, and will be celebrating this ‘draggiversary’ with a selection of drag legends at Strange Brew on Sunday.
These are Fluxx’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Sparks

“If I’m shopping in town, I simply can’t walk by Sparks without going in. From the beautiful selection of vintage and reworked clothing, to the perfect presents at the Ethical Gift Shop. It’s just not a day in town ’til I’ve had a browse and a cup of Maple Me-Time tea from the Busy V cafe. What Sparks represents as an independent, sustainable market place is the heart and soul of Bristol.”
Strange Brew

“There are so few places in Bristol that are accessible, affordable, and socially conscious. Strange Brew have been the home for Brizzle Boyz for the last couple of years and I could not be more grateful to be part of their wonderfully varied roster. Cabaret, drag, clubbing, live music, performance art. They really do it all!”
Forwards festival
“I have the privilege of working with Team Love through the year, and getting to see the wheels turn to make a festival that combines forward thinking and action for social change with a gorgeously eclectic lineup makes me so proud of the ethos of our city. Forwards is always a brilliant end to the summer. Watching the sun set on the Downs makes everyone sound better.”
Charity shopping

“In my opinion, the top-three spots for charity shops in Bristol are Whiteladies Road, Gloucester Road and East Street. I’ve found some amazing costume pieces on East Street, everyday wardrobe on Gloucester Road, and the perfect ‘saw this and thought of you’ gifts on Whiteladies.”
Scritch cabaret

The next Scritch open mic cabaret takes place at the Old Market on April 12 – photo: Scritch
“It’s impossible for me to pick just one cabaret night in Bristol. The calibre of this city’s arts and music scene, especially its LGBT+ arts scene, is truly off the charts and there’s so much variety on offer. That said, if I was going to pick a night for someone who’s never been to a cabaret before, it would be Scritch. It’s a pay-what-you-can scratch night where some performers are brand new, some are old hands trying out new material and everyone is given the same level of excitement. It’s at the Old Market Assembly on (usually) the second Sunday of the month, so if you head down early you can even get a roast in before a cosy, friendly cabaret. Lush!”
