Windmill Hill City Farm to celebrate 50th birthday in 2026
What is today Windmill Hill City Farm could easily have become a lorry park if council plans had come to fruition.
But in 1976, a group of people challenged the proposals for this piece of inner-city wasteland, determined to see the site put to more productive use
Fifty years on and Windmill Hill City Farm is an invaluable community space for the people of Bedminster and further afield.

As part of its 50th birthday celebrations, the incredible achievements of the founding volunteers will be celebrated as well as many of the the people who have been involved with the farm over the decades.
The team is now collecting memories of the farm with the hope of displaying them as part of the anniversary.
Email your own memory to [email protected] or post it in the golden post box in the farm’s reception.
A Golden Anniversary Fayre will take place in September with live music, food, stalls, performances and workshops; with more birthday events also being planned.
