‘We think a Bristol Legend is someone who embodies the spirit of community, creativity and care’
The inaugural Bristol Legends night is fast approaching. Bristol Legends – a new celebration spotlighting outstanding individuals, businesses and charities through documentary films, multimedia storytelling and a major awards night will take place at Ashton Gate Stadium on March 6.
As anticipation builds for a night celebrating the people who make our city great, we meet the sponsor of the overall individual Bristol Legend award, Retrofit West.
Bristol Legend award will be honouring one remarkable individual who has demonstrated heroism or made significant contributions entirely on their own initiative, and more often against the odds.
Laura Barber, head of marketing at Retrofit West, said supporting Bristol Legends was “an easy decision”.

“It felt like a natural fit for us. As a Community Interest Company (CIC), we operate exclusively within Bristol, BANES, and South Gloucestershire, and everything we do is about giving back to our local community,” said Laura.
“Getting on board with Bristol Legends allows us to celebrate the people who make our community such a vibrant place to live.”
Retrofit West works across the region to help households cut energy costs and improve comfort at home. Funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, the organisation offers free home visits and 80 per cent off vouchers for home assessments.
“Our expert advice guides homeowners in choosing the right home upgrades, like solar panels, heat pumps and insulation, and connects them with trusted, local contractors to get them installed,” Laura explains.
For Laura and the team, the idea of a “Legend” goes beyond profile or popularity.
“We think a Bristol Legend is someone who embodies the spirit of community, creativity, and care. Someone who actively tries to improve the lives of others. To us, ‘legend’ status is earned through a commitment to the collective good and a passion for seeing our local communities thrive.”
When asked who she would like to see recognised, Laura does not hesitate.
“I would love to see Daryn Carter recognised. As the driving force behind Bristol Pride, Daryn has built a platform for visibility, equality, and celebration that is really what Bristol is all about.”
Retrofit West is sponsoring the overall Bristol Legend award, helping ensure the city’s unsung heroes and community champions are recognised on one of Bristol’s biggest celebratory stages.
Delivered in partnership with the AntiBanquet team, the event will raise funds for social impact projects tackling food insecurity and help secure the future of independent journalism in Bristol.

Hosted by Jayde Adams, the night promises a distinctive alternative to traditional awards ceremonies, with performances, food curated by Josh Eggleton and a post-show party featuring some of the city’s top DJs, performers and bands.
