Tier acknowledges problems with Bristol e-scooter fleet

By Martin Booth  Friday Nov 17, 2023

There have been loud rumbles of discontent ever since Tier took over the hire e-scooter contract in Bristol from Voi in mid-October.

Lack of availability, broken kick stands, no parking spaces or battery levels shown on the app before you ride, scooters slowing down or even stopping completely on busy roads due to faulty GPS and no in-app navigation are just some of the problems that users have been experiencing.

And now for the first time, Tier have admitted that there have been issues and have apologised.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“We’ve been hearing that some people have been finding it difficult to hire an e-scooter over the last few days,” a Tier statement says.

“Unfortunately a manufacturing issue outside of our control has come to light which prevents the e-scooter kickstand from fully retracting on some of the fleet.

“We have identified a solution and are working to remedy the issue as quickly as possible. The availability of e-scooters has been affected, however from today the number of rentable scooters is increasing daily.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.”

Many people across the city want to see the return of Voi, with the Swedish company responding to calls for a comeback.
