The Wardrobe Theatre
It’s too wee! The appropriately-named Wardrobe Theatre is a tiny performance space which first creaked open its doors in May 2011 above the student-friendly White Bear pub on St. Michael’s Hill. It quickly gained a cult following (perhaps partly due to the £5-or-less ticketing policy), providing a mischievous mix of theatre, comedy and regular local nights – such as the gleefully chaotic weekly improvised live soap opera Closer Each Day, now in its 8th season. The Wardrobe is supported by the pub downstairs (structurally and in other ways) and by the Tobacco Factory Theatre across town. It’s run on a shoestring by a dedicated voluntary team of experienced theatre producers across Bristol. We salute them all.
