Section of Festival Way reopens after being closed for almost a year

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Apr 2, 2025

A popular walking and cycling route that connects the city centre with Ashton Court has finally reopened after being shut since May 2024.

The section of Festival Way is next to a new housing development with building work on the site meaning the path – part of National Cycle Network route 33 – had to close.

On Wednesday morning, people on the path stopped to take photos and videos; sharing their delight that it was open once again.

Building work is continuing next to the path on Vistry Group’s new City Gateway development of 220 new homes on the old Ashton rail yard.

Routes onto the path from the new development have already been constructed and are currently fenced off.

New seating has yet to be installed but the promised “enhanced landscaping” including a hedge and newly planted trees appears to be in place.
