Resource-sharing platform launched to reduce waste
A platform designed to reduce waste, share resources and build neighbourhood connection has been launched by a local resident.
Bristol Larder is an online webpage where residents in Bishopston and Redland can list items they have going spare like surplus fruit and vegetable or gardening equipment.
Users can search the site to find useful things and can then arrange to collect it from the poster.
The site is free to use and doesn’t require membership.
Founder Helen Roberts said: “We wanted to create something practical that helps reduce waste while strengthening local connections.
“There are already people in our community sharing oregano, bay leaves and seedlings. As the growing season gets underway, we hope Bristol Larder becomes a useful resource for neighbours.”

Roberts was influenced to launch the platform after seeing allotment gluts go to waste
Roberts was influenced to build the platform after seeing how much of the summer glut from harvest and allotments ended up in the compost when it could have been shared with others.
“The idea came from seeing handwritten posters on allotment fences — people with surplus bean poles, too many courgettes, windfall apples — with no easy way of reaching the people who would love them,” she said.
Gaynor Forman, an early adopter of the site, said: “I think it’s a good idea, otherwise (things) get thrown out. It’s better for the environment that we are not throwing things other people could possibly use.”
