Chefs and community leaders join for charity dinner to tackle food insecurity

By Milan Perera  Tuesday May 12, 2026

Renowned Bristol chefs, businesses and community leaders are set to join forces for a charity dinner raising vital funds to tackle youth inequality and food insecurity across the South West.

The event “A Meal That Matters” will feature a four-course menu created by leading local chefs including Josh Eggleton from Pony Family, Ben Harvey from Bianchis, Pegs from Sonny Stores and Pash from The Lido.

The evening will raise funds for The MAZI Project, which provides nutritious meals, skills programmes and pathways into education and employment for young people experiencing food poverty, housing insecurity and isolation.

Proceedings for the evening will be led by Bristol comedian Jayde Adams.

Organisers said every ticket sold will directly support meal provision and mentoring programmes for young people across the region.

The Bedminster-based charity was founded by Melanie Vaxevanakis back in 2021 in response to the “UK free school meals scandal” during the pandemic, after widespread criticism over poor-quality food parcels provided to vulnerable families.

Using food as a tool for change, the charity supports care leavers, young asylum seekers and young people recovering from homelessness or fleeing domestic violence.

The organisation also runs talks and cooking classes, with a strong emphasis on locally sourced, seasonal produce.

The fundraising dinner will take place on May 20 at The Elmgrove Centre.
