New operator to run 23 bus between Ashton Vale and city centre

By Martin Booth  Monday Feb 5, 2024

A Bristol neighbourhood that is currently not served by any buses will be getting a route back to the city centre from April.

The number 23 bus was one of eight bus routes axed in south Bristol in 2023, with residents of Ashton Vale left feeling “isolated and abandoned”.

But a year after the 23 was scrapped, it will be reinstated under a new operator, Transpora Bus.

Transpora already run a number of services in the Bristol area including the 25 from Fishponds to the city centre, the 60 from Dursley to Thornbury and the AZ3 for Amazon workers getting to their distribution centre in Avonmouth from Broadmead.

The 23 will once again run from Ashton Vale to Broadmead via the city centre and Bedminster.

Responding to the news, longstanding Labour councillor for Bedminster and former cabinet member for transport, Mark Bradshaw, tweeted: “I welcome this new bus service by @TransporaBus serving Ashton Vale #Bedminster & hope it will be well used by local people.

“The gap in bus connections in the area has been a major concern since the withdrawal of the previous First Bus route.”

Green Party councillor for Bedminster, Tessa Fitzjohn, added: “Fantastic news after all these months!”
