New interactive exhibit explores carbon-free Bristol

By Martha Fiddick  Monday Jun 8, 2026

We The Curious has partnered with Bristol City Leap to create an interactive exhibit celebrating and educating people about developments in Bristol’s transition to becoming carbon-free.

The exhibit, due to be displayed in the science centre’s North Gallery space, involves a web of tubes, representing pipes and cables connecting landmarks including the SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The flow of renewable energy will be replicated by a coloured ‘scarf’ which will move through the tubes and around the miniature city.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The exhibit thus seeks to show the role that networks underneath our feet play in Bristol’s green transition.

Bristol City Leap is a partnership between Bristol City Council, Ameresco UK and Vattenfall which seeks to accelerate green energy investment to decarbonise Bristol.

The 20-year partnership plans to bring more than £1bn in investment into low carbon energy infrastructure.

We the Curious head of exhibitions, Andy Cocco, said: “This new exhibit is a great way to really explore sustainability and specifically decarbonisation in Bristol in a fun and engaging way.

“It brings to life the amazing work that’s already taking place in the city but also showcasing how people can work together and have power as a collective to create a better world.

“The scientific knowledge and solutions are there – it’s up to us to make them happen.

“We’re delighted to be working with Bristol City Leap on this fun, interactive exhibit which showcases the new technology shaping our future for the better.”

Hannah Spungin, director at Bristol City Leap, added: “We’re proud to support We The  Curious in creating an engaging new exhibit that brings Bristol’s energy future to life.

“Through our role in the Bristol City Leap partnership, we are committed not only to delivering low carbon infrastructure but also to helping people understand how these systems work and why they matter.”

We The Curious, which was the first science centre to declare a climate emergency, has pledged to reduce its emissions to net zero by 2030, aligned with Bristol City Council’s target.

The exhibit will be launched in time for Bristol school summer holidays in July 2026.
