Church ‘deeply saddened’ by break-in
A church and food bank have become the latest victims of a break-in in our city.
Thieves broke into Ebenezer Church on Filton Avenue in Horfield in the early hours of Wednesday morning and stole items of “significant value”, including a safe and laptops.
The criminals also took a transit van used by North Bristol & South Glos Foodbank before driving away in the vehicle.
In an update, church representatives confirmed the van had been found overnight and had not been damaged.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, the van was first spotted on Hogarth Road by a member of the public later on the day of the theft before officers located it overnight on Dorchester Road in Lockleaze.
A force spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses, information, and any dashcam or other footage after a burglary at a Bristol church and the theft of a van used by a local food bank.
“It happened at the Ebenezer Evangelical Church, Filton Avenue, Horfield, between 3.30am and 4am on Wednesday, May 27.
“Thieves forced entry to the building and stole items including a safe and laptops.
“They also took van keys, enabling them to steal a Ford Transit used by North Bristol and South Gloucestershire Foodbank.
“Enquiries into the burglary and van theft continue.”
Church leaders said the church and food bank remain dedicated to supporting the local community.
“We are deeply saddened by what has happened, but both the church and food bank remain committed to serving our local communities and continuing to bring practical support, compassion and hope,” they said.
