Spate of break-ins continues

By Martin Booth  Wednesday May 13, 2026

The owners of an independent cafe say it is “devastating” to experience a second break-in at their business which they only opened at the start of 2026.

The break-in at around 6am on Wednesday morning at Cafe 56 on Colston Street also follows break-ins on Monday at Two Ways on Bond Street and Sandwich Sandwich on Queen’s Road.

Bristol24/7 has asked Avon & Somerset Police if they are investigating the three break-ins as linked.

At Cafe 56, perpetrators forced entry through the front door and caused significant damage to the entrance of the cafe close to the top of Christmas Steps.

“They took some cash and equipment and it’s honestly devastating to deal with this again as a small business,” a Cafe 56 spokesperson told Bristol24/7.

“We work incredibly hard to keep things going, so seeing the damage this morning was really upsetting.

“The police have been informed and we’re hoping something can be done.”
