Community garden party taking place in Lawrence Hill

By Joseph Fleming  Tuesday Jun 4, 2019

Age UK Bristol is dedicated to older people and tackling loneliness among the elderly. In line with their aims to make Bristol more age-friendly, they are hosting a garden party for all ages in Lawrence Hill.

The courtyard outside Lawrence Hill Health Centre will host the event from 1.30pm until 3pm on Wednesday, June 5. Age UK Bristol are hosting the event as part of Friends Ageing Better, their campaign which encourages communities to come together and involve older people.

Everyone is invited to the garden party, come rain or shine

Clare Mitchell, Friends Ageing Better development officer, explains how the idea for a garden came about: “Katrina Darke, a GP from the Lawrence Hill Health Centre, wanted to make the most of a green space for the local community, in the courtyard of the health centre.

Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“The health centre is next to the Lawrence Hill roundabout and although surrounded by housing there is very few amenities – no cafes or places for people to go within an easy walk.”

Party-goers can also plant bulbs and seeds to help create a new garden for the community that is currently under construction at the health centre. There will also be a multitude of activities for children, as well as an ideas board for the garden and free tea and cake for all.

The planned garden will not only provide a community resource and utilise the green space outside Lawrence Hill Health Centre. All the people of the community are invited to enjoy the gathering and experienced gardeners are welcome to attend and voice their ideas and thoughts for the space.
